The Manipur Police, in collaboration with local authorities from Kuilong and Kadi IV villages, successfully destroyed approximately 10 acres of suspected poppy nursery plants in Tamenglong district. The operation, which spanned from September 27 to October 3, focused on eradicating poppy plantations in Kuilong Part 2 and Kadi IV villages, under the jurisdiction of Tamei Police Station.

During the operation, around 4-5 acres in Kuilong Part 2 and 5-6 acres in Kadi IV were cleared, revealing the suspected illegal cultivation believed to be the work of unknown individuals. The successful operation stemmed from a coordinated effort between local authorities and law enforcement to combat the growing issue of drug cultivation in the area.

On October 3, the Superintendent of Police in Tamenglong, alongside personnel from Tamei Police, intensified efforts by uprooting additional poppy plants in Kadi IV and Kuilong. This operation is part of the state’s broader initiative to address illegal poppy cultivation and the associated drug trade, a pressing concern for the region.

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh commended the operation via his X handle (formerly Twitter), expressing gratitude for the efforts to eliminate illegal poppy plantations. “Appreciate your efforts in eradicating the illegal plantations of poppy and drugs businesses from our Manipur state. We will not rest until these poppy plantations and the drug menace are completely eradicated from Manipur,” he stated.
