A new venture for Entrepreneurship in NE

The fuel for the future ‘the compressed biogas’ is predicted to be produced from various bio mas waste resources like community solid waste, agriculture waste, cattle dung and manure management plant waste, sugarcane press mud etc. Due to its abundance availability of food waste and all other waste in a hugely populated country like India, this concept of Bio CNG can really make us self-reliant in this sector within short time.

Government of India has published National Policy on Biofuels-2018 with effect from 16thMay 2018. The gist of this Policy is to enhance the management of biofuels in the energy and transportation sectors of the country during the coming decade and to become complete ‘self-reliant’.

The Policy aims to derive the following advantages.

  • Decrease in Crude and LNG imports and thereby huge savings in forex.
  • Consumption, expansion and promotion of local feedstock and its utilization for production of biofuels thereby gradually substitute fossil fuels while contributing to National Energy Security
  • Climate Change improvement and control in pollution/waste toxic.
  • Creation of new livelihood opportunities in a more sustainable way.
  • Support in the application of sophisticated advanced technologies for the production of biofuels.

Industry/HPCL has already initiated various biofuel projects in the country including Compressed Biogas (CBG) Projects under SATAT (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation) initiative of Govt. of India which foresees target production of 15 Million Metric Ton (MMT) of CBG by 2023-24, from 5000 different CBG Plants.Waste/Bio-mass sources (agricultural residue, cattle dung, sugarcane press mud, municipal solid waste, sewage treatment plant waste, etc.)can successfully produce Biogas through the process of anaerobic decomposition.
