According to the Sri Lankan Justice Minister, the highest court will serve as the law’s guidance

Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, the justice minister for Sri Lanka, stated on Sunday that the government would abide by the Supreme Court’s rulings regarding the proposed new Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), despite opposition from the opposition and civil society organisations. According to him, the decision to postpone the bill’s introduction in parliament was made in response to demands for further consultation from a number of organisations. The much-maligned Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) of 1979, which was implemented to combat the then-existing Tamil separatist militancy, will be replaced with the new Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).
