Amazon India shared updates on the pledges it had announced as part of its commitment to India. Amazon shared that it has cumulatively digitized over 62 lakh micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), enabled nearly $8 billion in cumulative e-commerce exports and created more than 13 lakh direct and indirect jobs in India till date. Amazon had pledged to digitize 1-crore MSMEs, enable $20 billion in cumulative e-commerce exports and create 20-lakh jobs in India by 2025. Amazon is well on track to fulfil these pledges.
Amazon had announced (about 2 years ago) the $250 MM Amazon Smbhav Venture Fund to invest in technology led startups passionate about unlocking possibilities of a digital India. The Venture Fund is focused on enabling entrepreneurs to invent, build and make in India. Over the last 24 months, the Venture Fund has made several investments. Amazon India has digitized over 6.2 million MSMEs including sellers, artisans & weavers, delivery & logistics service partners etc. Amazon’s digitization efforts are empowering small businesses including local retail stores, artisans and grassroot entrepreneurs to reach their customers and broaden their reach even further.
To further simplify online selling and make ecommerce accessible to lakhs of MSMEs across India, Amazon India recently launched a slew of initiatives. Amazon’s efforts towards digitization of MSMEs, and boosting e-commerce exports from the country are helping create tens of thousands of livelihood opportunities in India. In the last one year, Amazon helped create about 1.4-lakh direct and indirect jobs across industries like IT, E-commerce, Logistics, Manufacturing, Content Creation, Skill Development and more as well as other indirect jobs. Amazon is focused on creating a robust infrastructure to help Indian businesses reach customers in 200+ countries and territories, create global brands from India and grow exports through its Global Selling program. The program is witnessing rapid momentum and today there are more than 1.25-lakh exporters on the program who are on track to cross $8 billion in cumulative exports by end of 2023.
