American Oncology Institute (AOI) in Imphal saved a 50-year-old woman suffering from metastatic breast cancer, marking a remarkable victory for innovative cancer care. Under the expert guidance of Dr Brig A.K. Dhar and Dr Shibashish Bhattacharayya, the patient’s journey from a complex medical history to complete recovery exemplifies the cutting-edge treatments available at AOI.

A patient with triple-positive breast cancer, who underwent right breast conservation surgery in 2013, was treated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and hormone therapy. Four months ago, bilateral breast lumps resurfaced, prompting her to return to medical care. A PET-CT scan revealed widespread metastasis in her bilateral breasts. Dr. Brig A.K. Dhar devised a comprehensive treatment plan, including standard chemotherapy and targeted therapy, and specialized bone treatment. However, a few months into treatment, the patient experienced a resurgence of bilateral breast masses and nipple discharge.

Dr. Shibashish Bhattacharayya introduced a pioneering treatment in Manipur, combining cytotoxic chemotherapy with targeted therapy, after a PET-CT scan revealed disease progression. The patient underwent six cycles of this therapy with exceptional results.   Dr Shibashish Bhattacharayya,Medical Oncologist, AOI Imphal explaining the treatment stated, “This remarkable success reflects the ever-evolving landscape of medical innovation and highlights our commitment to delivering pioneering healthcare solutions to our patients.”
