Amul’s plan to sell milk in Bengaluru has created a storm

Amul’s announcement to enter the Bengaluru market with milk and curd has raised the political temperature in Karnataka, with the opposition Congress accusing the ruling BJP of hatching a conspiracy to kill the state’s formidable dairy brand Nandini.

Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah, who was the Congress chief minister from 2013 to 2018, said the Gujarat-based dairy brand had earlier attempted to enter the state but was thwarted by his government. He tweeted, “but now @BJP4Karnataka is welcoming them with open arms,”.

Siddaramaiah tweeted, “..they are now determined to destroy Nandini KMF – the brand built by our farmers.” Netizens launched a campaign on social media with #SaveNandini and #BanAmul, leaving the ruling BJP in a quandary ahead of the May 10 assembly elections.
