An artificial wholesale market has grown up in the retail market, the administration caught the picture when it went to find out the reason for the increase in the price of potatoes. Administration officials believe that the price of potatoes in Jalpaiguri is increasing under the control of the artificial market. The administration conducted a raid across the district on Sunday after receiving complaints about the price of potatoes. The administration raided three markets in Jalpaiguri city. Bhutanese potatoes from Jyoti are being sold at very high prices, it has also been caught by the administration. Jalpaiguri Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Headquarters) Tamojit Chakraborty told a businessman in Dinbazar, “Common buyers will not take responsibility for profit and loss.

Potatoes should not be sold at high prices in any way.” From this day, the administration has started selling potatoes at a fair price in six markets of the city. ‘Sufal Bangla’ stall has been opened. Even after the operation, Jyoti potatoes were sold at more than thirty rupees in Dinbazar, Station Bazar. Red potatoes were sold at a rate of around 40 rupees. Once the potatoes are out of the freezer, they go to wholesalers. From there the potatoes go to the open market. Another market has entered this circle at Jalpaiguri. It is alleged that a class of traders are buying most of the potatoes from the wholesale market. The Sub-Divisional Magistrate said, “We have heard several arguments and reasons, but are not satisfied with them. I have also spoken to the admirals. This time the freezer will be attacked. In any case, nobody will be allowed to charge higher prices of potatoes.”
