Apple has temporarily disabled the notification summary feature for news and entertainment apps in the iOS 18.3 developer beta. This decision follows criticism over inaccurate summaries from sources such as the BBC. The feature, powered by Apple Intelligence, will be re-enabled in a future update as improvements are made. In the meantime, the beta version will indicate that the notification summary feature is in beta and may have errors.
Users will also be able to disable notifications for specific apps from the lock screen or Notification Center. Additionally, the lock screen will now display italicized text to differentiate between summaries and standard notifications. This pause comes after an incident where Apple’s summarization misreported a BBC story, prompting the company to clarify its summaries.
