The Blooming Flower Children’s Foundation School in Kalinagar Hmar Veng was set ablaze by unidentified miscreants in the early hours of October 18, causing extensive damage to the institution. The arson attack occurred around 4:10 a.m. and has left the local community in dismay, although no casualties have been reported.
Founded in 1997 by Rev. Benjamin Shakum, the school has long been a cornerstone of education in the region, known for its impressive academic results and its commitment to welcoming students from all communities. “I am deeply saddened that my school, which welcomed students from all communities, was targeted in this way,” said Rev. Shakum. “This is an attack not just on an institution but on the values of unity and progress.”
The attack has drawn strong condemnation from the Hmar Inpui General Headquarters, which described it as an assault on education and a calculated attempt to destabilize the Hmar community. Local authorities have faced criticism for failing to provide adequate security, as the school was left unguarded despite prior requests for protection.
