Assamese film industry breaks barriers with national release of bold Hindi venture ‘Kooki’

Critically acclaimed Hindi film Kooki is all set to release nationally on 28th of June 2024, the film has touched a sensitive topic and narrating a journey of a rape victim. Directed by Pranab J Deka , the movie revolves around   the multiple stages and mental trauma  a victim goes through.

In a bold move to showcase Assam’s rich cultural tapestry and cinematic talent, the Assamese film industry is breaking regional barriers by producing its latest venture in Hindi. Dr. Junmoni Devi Khound, the producer of “Kooki,” emphasized the importance of reaching out to a larger audience, stating, “Our goal is to demonstrate the depth and diversity of Assamese cinema to audiences beyond our region.”

With 98% of the crew hailing from Assam, “Kooki” highlights not only the industry’s talent pool but also fosters cross-cultural exchanges and skill development among its members. The film boasts actors, singers, and musicians from both regional and national levels, cementing its position as a collaborative effort to showcase Assamese storytelling heritage and technical expertise to a wider spectrum of viewers.
