This year preparation for Rongali Bihu in Assam has already taken place which is celebrated in the month of April every year.  For Assamese people the month of New Year begins from April also termed as “Bohag”. G20 summit is to get started later this week in Guwahati, Assam. Delegates from member countries of G20 are arriving in the region for the meeting, 94 member countries and international organization and officials are invited. On Sunday, the new DGP of Assam was nominated, Gyanendra Pratap Singh. The police force also brought the Terrorism Act under control and focused on other developmental activities of the state. “The acts of terrorism have almost come under control. On Friday, first batch of illegal foreigner shifted to the Matia Transit Camp. This camp is the country’s largest detention centre. So far 68 persons are transferred to the centre. The transit camnp is located in Goalpara about 130km west of Guwahati. Among the detainees shifted to the camp includes 45 men, 21 women and two children. They all are declared as foreigners by the quasi-judicial Foreigner Tribunals and those convicted by judicial courts of visa violations. Minor confrontation took place between Assam Rifles and NSCN-IM cadres in Intanki National Park in Nagaland. According to the sources, Assam Rifles were out for patrolling for durations varying from 72 hours to 96 hours in the run-up to Republic Day.
