The Calcutta High Court on Friday canceled the recruitment of 1,911 Group D employees in various schools in West Bengal while hearing the multi-crore recruitment scam.

“A bench headed by Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay directed the West Bengal School Service Commission to cancel the recommendations given to 1,911 candidates,” said advocate Firdaus Shamim, appearing for the petitioners. Applicants in this case are those candidates who have qualified for the recruitment and aptitude test but have not been recruited.

“Until today, the Calcutta High Court has canceled the jobs of more than 3,000 candidates who were recruited as teaching and non-teaching staff in various state-run schools using fraudulent means. The list includes the name of Ankita Adhikari, daughter of former minister Paresh Adhikari, who was appointed as a school teacher,” Shamim said.

The high court also said that the election for 2,500-odd vacancies should be completed within the next three weeks.

“Those whose jobs have been terminated have been ordered to refund their salaries in installments. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing the recruitment scam, has been directed to interrogate these candidates,” Shamim added.
