A top executive of a Chinese smartphone manufacturer was detained by the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Commissionerate of Mumbai Zone on Wednesday in Maharashtra’s Thane district for allegedly illegally claiming input tax credits (ITCs) of Rs 19 crore through fabricated invoices.
Mahendra Kumar Rawat, manager of Oppo Mobiles India Private Limited’s finance and accounts division, was detained in Bhiwandi town and then produced before a local court, which put him in judicial detention until April 3, according to a statement from the CGST Bhiwandi Commissionerate.
He was detained under Section 69 of the CGST Act, 2017 for violating Section 132 of the same Act based on significant evidence discovered during the inquiry.
