Heavy monsoon rains in Arunachal Pradesh have wreaked havoc, particularly in Kurung Kumey district where the 47-kilometer Sarli-Koloriang road has been completely washed out, rendering all bridges impassable. This has effectively isolated Sarli town from its surrounding areas.
A review meeting on July 4, chaired by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu via video conference from Tawang, addressed the severe impact of the floods across the state. Also attending online were Nakap Nalo, Advisor to the Minister of Disaster Management, and Chief Secretary Dharmendra from Itanagar. The meeting focused on assessing damages to state and national highways, roads, drinking water systems, power infrastructure, and ensuring the availability of essential supplies such as food and medicine.
CM Khandu highlighted the unpredictable nature of the monsoon and instructed all concerned departments to maintain a high state of vigilance and preparedness until September. He emphasized proactive measures to ensure readiness in areas currently unaffected, preparing them for potential flood impacts.
