Congress MP urges Amit Shah to act on Manipur violence

Congress MP from Inner Manipur, A Bimol Akoijam, has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, expressing grave concern over the escalating violence in Manipur. In his letter, Akoijam urged the government to take swift and decisive action to control the situation and restore peace.

Akoijam highlighted the devastation caused by the ongoing conflict, which has claimed hundreds of lives and left nearly 60,000 people displaced. He emphasized the urgent need for security forces to act judiciously to curb the violence. The Congress MP also called for an investigation into the alleged involvement of illegal immigrants, foreign elements, and the illicit drug trade in fueling the unrest.

“The crisis in Manipur is reminiscent of the horrors of India’s partition in 1947,” Akoijam wrote, adding that such violence would not have been tolerated had it occurred in mainstream Indian states like Uttar Pradesh or Maharashtra. He expressed deep disappointment in the government’s handling of the situation, urging Shah to ensure justice and peace for Manipur’s people.

Akoijam also condemned aerial attacks involving drones and missiles, which have worsened the violence. He called for immediate corrective measures and urged Shah to reject identity politics, which he believes is exacerbating the crisis.
