Deputy Commissioner ensures smooth traffic amid Itanagar’s torrential rain and landslides

In response to heavy rainfall causing landslides and mudslides, Deputy Commissioner Smti Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta, IAS, took immediate action to ensure smooth traffic flow and safety on NH-415 and surrounding areas. During her inspection of NH-415, Deputy Commissioner Mehta directed the deployment of manpower and machinery to clear blockages caused by landslides. The Highway Department has been instructed to maintain readiness round the clock and respond promptly to any obstructions.

Notably, the DC visited the Karsingsa Block point, issuing a traffic advisory for the temporary closure of the road due to a significant landslide. Traffic has been diverted through an alternative route via Gumto until further notice. Similarly, debris accumulation at the 6-kilometer mark was swiftly cleared by highway personnel. Further inspections included the Lekhi area, where immediate clearance of blockades was ordered. The state highway through Ganga Lake to Batt village also received attention, with the PWD department deploying resources to clear multiple landslides. Continuous monitoring and clearance efforts are ongoing to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow.

Simultaneously, efforts to install an alternate water supply pipeline and maintain road infrastructure in Itanagar township are progressing. The DC inspected the PMGSY road through Ganga Batt, underscoring the importance of proactive maintenance.
