Efforts to cement opposition unity gathered pace on Thursday

The BJP poked fun at the JDU leader’s outreach on Thursday, saying “the PM post for 2024 is not vacant.” At the same time, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar met with Left-wing heavyweights Sitaram Yechury and D Raja.
Sharad Pawar, the leader of the NCP, will meet with Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of the Congress, later this evening. Rahul Gandhi will also be there. The meeting is part of efforts to unite several opposition groups on a common platform to defeat the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Given that additional discussions are anticipated in the next few days, the leaders are likely to move unity talks forward. A conference of the major opposition figures will be called by the Congress very soon.
