Exportation of non-basmati white rice gets stuck following its ban

Earlier on 20 July, an order was imposed to ban exportation of non-basmati rice aiming to stabilize domestic prices.

Now, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), a branch of the trade ministry, has stipulated that these cargoes can be shipped out if traders settle the export duty by the ban’s effective date.

The exportation ban news of earlier has now caused problems for the traders, “three ships were standing still at the Kandla port and a lot of containers were lying at different ports, causing a lot of problems for the rice industry,” Prem Garg, President of the Indian Rice Exporters Federation told.

Garg said exportation of the cargoes will not only help suppliers but also consumers specially for the needy countries.
