First state visit by President Murmu to Suriname and Serbia from June 4–9

From June 4–9, 2023, President Droupadi Murmu will make her first-ever state visit to the Republics of Suriname and Serbia. As a Chief Guest, she will take part in the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the arrival of Indians in Suriname and interact with members of the Indian community and diaspora. Additionally, she will go to important historical and cultural locations. There will be a ton of bilateral meetings and events throughout her stay.

Suriname is hopeful that India’s G20 Presidency will address their concerns. In January, during his visit to India, President Santokhi said “India has taken the leadership of the G20 to bring a new order of peace and solidarity.”

President Droupadi Murmu will visit Serbia from June 7-9, meeting with President Aleksandar Vui, Prime Minister Ana Brnabi, and Speaker of the National Assembly Vladimir Orlic. She will also address a business event and interact with the Indian community.In a statement, MEA informed, “The President will be visiting Paramaribo, Suriname, at the invitation of President Chandrikapersad Santokhi. President will hold bilateral talks with President Santokhi.”
