Fit India Week in Modern English School, Assam

 In yet another grand event, students of Modern English School demonstrated their sporting prowess with nail-biting badminton matches. The Badminton competition was organized today at the school premises to observe the FIT India week and inspire students to participate in sports and fitness activities actively. The event was graced by Mr. Pranjit Bhagawati, Deputy Director of Sports Authority of India’s NE Regional Centre (Guwahati), Mr. Biju Medhi, Ward Commissioner of GMC, Guwahati and Mr. Nakul Kalita, Ward Secretary of GMC. As the Deputy Director of the Sports Authority of India, Mr. Pranjit Bhagawati encouraged the students and highlighted the importance of sports in life.

The Badminton competition included doubles matches of girls and boys of classes 7th, 8th, and 9th, and witnessed phenomenal teamwork and enthusiasm of students to bag the victory. Post the conclusion of the event Modern English School was awarded a certificate of recognition and declared itself as a ‘FIT INDIA SCHOOL’ by FIT INDIA.

Fit India Week is a part of the Fit India Movement, rolled out by the Honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, in 2019. It encourages schools to focus on fitness activities and sports for students via extensive campaigns.

The school’s principal, Mrs. Jonali Das, Principal of Modern English School, was present throughout the competition and said, “I am extremely proud of all the students who participated in the badminton competition. They have shown great sportsmanship and determination throughout the event. The competition was a great way to promote physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle among our students. The competition also provided the students a platform to rejuvenate themselves from the hectic academic session. I hope they will continue participating in such events in the future.”

The school’s PGT Physical Education teacher, Mr. Abhijit Gogoi, who helped organize the competition, added, “The badminton competition was a great success, and we are delighted with the level of participation and enthusiasm shown by the students. The event was a great opportunity for the students to showcase their skills and compete against their peers. We look forward to next year’s event and hope to see more students participating.”

The competition saw over 120 students, representing each grade by a team of [number] players. The teams competed in a round-robin format, with each team playing against every other team in their grade. The top two teams from each grade then progressed to the semi-finals and finals. 

The school also encourages the students to stay active and healthy and make physical activity a part of their daily routine. Therefore, the school will continue to organize similar events in the future to promote physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle among the students.

The badminton competition was a great success and a fitting way to celebrate FIT India Week at Modern English School. The school hopes the students will take the lessons learned during the event and apply them to their daily lives to lead healthy and active lifestyles.
