G20 delegates visited Sarnath after G20 Development Ministers’ meeting in Varanasi

On Tuesday, June 13, 2023, following the completion of the G20 Development Ministers’ meeting in Varanasi, the G20 delegates traveled to the revered city of Sarnath in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. S. Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, was among them.

During their tour, foreign delegates viewed historical sites such as monuments, the Dhamek Stupa, a hermitage, a museum, and more. Dr. S. Jaishankar, the foreign minister, was also spotted giving details on the historic site. The 115 guides appointed by the Government of Uttar Pradesh provided information and guided the foreign delegates around the Dhamek Stupa, which was built during the Gupta period.

A cultural program was also organized.The G20 Development Ministers’ Conference in Varanasi adopted an ambitious seven-year action plan and a document to increase cooperation and partnership on sustainable lifestyles for meeting climate change goals. The outcome document will be presented to G20 leaders at the G20 summit in New Delhi. In his address, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said “The Action Plan on the SDGs will not only inspire a stronger G20 commitment to the development agenda but also drive transformative actions in three key areas.”
