According to information provided to Parliament on Tuesday, India has utilised just 29% of its hydropower capacity, compared to the US’s 80 percent and the EU’s 70 percent, respectively.
Power Minister R K Singh stated in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that according to the Central Electricity Authority’s (CEA) Reassessment Study conducted between 1978 and 1987, the estimated hydropower potential in the nation is around 1,45,320 MW (for projects with capacity above 25 MW).
Out of 1,45,320 MW, Singh claimed that 42,104.6 MW (or 29%) had been developed, while 15,023.5 MW (10.3%) are currently being built.
