Kishtwar’s Saffron receives GI tag from Geographical Indications Registry

Saffron grown in Kishtwar region of J&K has got the Geographical Indication (GI) tag by the Geographical Indications Registry.

The spice is grown in few parts of the Kishtwar region of Jammu, along with parts of Kashmir. The legendary and most expensive cultivation of saffron, widely known as Kumkum, is also a key cash crop in Jammu’s isolated mountainous area of Kishtwar.

Saffron cultivation is a cultural heritage which  represents freshness and purity. Kishtwar’s saffron production area is locally known as Mandal.
