Manish Malhotra-designed uniforms unveiled for Air India crew

Air India on December 12 unveiled uniforms for cabin crew and pilots designed by Manish Malhotra. The airline’s female cabin crew will wear ombre sarees with a modern touch, while men will wear bandhgalas. For the cockpit crew, the famous couturier designed classic black suits.

The new uniforms will be introduced in phases over the next few months, debuting with Air India’s entry into service of its first Airbus A350.

Ready-to-wear sarees can optionally be worn with comfortable pants. The airline, in a press release, said the move is to give maximum flexibility to female cabin crew to choose the style they are most familiar with and bring a unique East-meets-West look.

Ombre sarees for senior female cabin crew will be aubergine to burgundy, paired with aubergine blazers. Junior female cabin crew will wear vibrant red to purple sarees paired with red blazers.

On the other hand, the cockpit crew uniform consists of a classic black double-breasted suit with a print inspired by the vista.
