Companies interested in investing in Meghalaya will now be required to apply online as part of the ‘Ease of Doing Business’ initiative, which is part of the Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade’s Business Reform Action Plan. To streamline corporate rules, make compliance easier, and ensure adequate execution, the state government established the Invest Meghalaya Portal, an online single window system. The portal will allow for online application submission, payment, tracking and monitoring, download of the final signed certificate, licenses, documents, and third-party verification to ensure the validity of approval or registration.
Certificates obtained from the official websites or portals of various Central or State ministries, departments, and organizations will be considered as valid. Physically signed and stamped certificates will not be necessary. It further stated that there will be no physical contact between the applicant and the department from the start of the application process to the final judgment, except in circumstances where inspection visits are needed under the applicable Act. Notifications at each important stage of application processing will be given to the applicant via SMS or email.
The responsible authorities shall seek all concerns or clarifications relating to industrial applicants once and within seven days of receiving such an application. The Invest Meghalaya Portal has created an online dashboard for all services. The web dashboard was designed in accordance with DPIIT guidelines. For new registrations, application-specific information, including the date of application, date of approval, and fee breakdown, will be updated in the online portal. All dashboards are updated in real-time.
