Meghalaya NEHU Student Union President admitted to hospital

North-Eastern Hill University Students Union President Sandy Sohtun was admitted to Shillong Civil Hospital as his health deteriorated due to prolonged hunger strike. Due to severe symptoms such as cloudy vision, Sohtun was hospitalized in the critical care unit. The hunger strike started by disgruntled students at Meghalaya’s North-Eastern Hill University to demand their demands, is yet to be resolved, and the students are still hoping that their demands will be met.

The students’ demands include the resignation of the registrar, vice-chancellor and other authorities including professor Prabha Shankar Shukla. He Ministry of Education, Government of India earlier today said that a committee will be formed to look into the alleged administrative lapses and poor administration of the university. Using “serious concerns raised by students, student associations and media reports” as justification, the Union Ministry made its decision public in an official order on November 14.
