Police nab militants linked to extortion cases

Security forces in Manipur arrested seven militants from the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (Nongdrenkhomba) in connection with extortion cases in Imphal West district on Monday, police confirmed. Superintendent of Police Ksh Shivakanta Singh revealed that based on credible intelligence, a search operation was carried out in Langol Game village, leading to the arrest of the seven individuals, including one woman.

Those arrested were identified as L. Alin (26), K. Rohit Singh (23), Sanju W. (20), P. Thoiba (26), W. Hero (21), Y. Bikash (23), and Henthoibi M. (41). During the operation, security personnel recovered two four-wheelers, one two-wheeler, two pistols, and camouflage uniforms.

With the rise in extortion activities, public discontent has been growing. “We have arrested 11 people in connection with extortion cases over the past few days, and we are considering applying the National Security Act (NSA) to specific individuals,” Singh said. He further added that some cases may be referred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and urged the public to cooperate by sharing information to help curb these criminal activities.
