PPL India secured a significant victory in copyright infringement cases

Phonographic Performance Ltd. (PPL India) has secured a significant victory in copyright infringement cases, restraining entities from playing over 70 lakh songs controlled by PPL without the necessary license.

The Delhi High Court has ruled that PPL India can protect its extensive catalogue of over 70 lakh songs, which are assigned by over 400+ music labels, including T-series, Saregama, Sony Music, Universal Music, Warner Music, Times Music, and Speed Records.

The rulings are a significant step for PPL India, as they address the unauthorized use of copyrighted sound recordings by prominent establishments like One8 Commune, Tim Hortons, Aptronix, Unicorn, Gola Sizzler, and Str8up Hospitality. Various Indian courts have consistently supported PPL by issuing injunctions against infringing entities.
