Reckitt launches Rainbow Classrooms initiative to promote gender inclusivity in Northeastern schools

Reckitt, a global leader in consumer health, hygiene, and nutrition, has launched the innovative Rainbow Classrooms initiative in collaboration with Plan India under its Durex The Birds and Bees Talk (TBBT) program. This initiative aims to create inclusive educational environments across Northeast India by advocating for gender inclusivity and fluidity.

The initiative introduces vibrant, rainbow-colored classroom doors as symbols of inclusivity and recognition for schools championing diversity. Supported by the Government of India and aligned with the National Curriculum Framework (NCF), the program includes India’s first gender diversity course tailored for teachers. This course equips educators with the necessary tools and knowledge to effectively guide students through issues related to gender identity. Gaurav Jain, Executive Vice President of Reckitt – South Asia, highlighted the significance of the initiative: “The Rainbow Classrooms initiative underscores our commitment to fostering safe and supportive educational environments. By empowering educators and enhancing school infrastructure, we aim to cultivate a culture of acceptance and respect.”

The initiative will encompass a series of engaging activities across Sikkim, Manipur, and Arunachal Pradesh, including painting competitions and workshops on gender equality. Reckitt also plans to extend the initiative’s impact to regions such as Itanagar, Gangtok, and Namsai markets in Arunachal Pradesh, reinforcing its commitment to community support and inclusivity.
