“Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end,” wisely observed Seneca. This timeless adage resonated as the Rotary Club of Calcutta Centenary (RCC) celebrated the end of one chapter and the start of another at its 5th installation ceremony on July 28, 2024, held at The Bengal Club. The event was a testament to the club’s enduring spirit and commitment to service.
Distinguished guests, including District Governor Dr. Krishnendu Gupta and his wife Dr. Simran Gupta, graced the occasion. The event commenced with the National Anthem followed by Pandit Srikumar Chattopadhyay’s soulful and divine rendition of Stotras, setting a positive tone for the evening.
Outgoing President Rtn. Amitava Banerjee’s successful tenure was highlighted, including notable projects and contributions to the Rotary Foundation. His leadership was commended, and the club showcased its recent accomplishments, such as the CCTV installation at Bijaygarh Balika Vidyapithand the distribution of table tennis and chess boards. In keeping with tradition, a cheque of $250 was presented to the District Governor by Club Treasurer Rtn. Kaushik Sarkar.
The ceremony witnessed the formal installation of Rtn. Aniruddha Chatterjee as Club President and Rtn.Mausumi Paulas Club Secretary for the 2024-25 term. Other office bearers were also inducted. Rtn. Leena Das Ghosh and Smt. Saswati Das were honored for their contributions.
Incoming President Rtn. Aniruddha Chatterjee outlined his vision for the year, emphasizing a focus on community engagement, sports development, and healthcare initiatives. He introduced the concept of Rotary Experience Centers to support local artisans and weaversand announced plans for cervical cancer awareness programs and thalassemia prevention efforts.
Eight new members were warmly welcomed into the Rotary family, enriching the club’s diversity and strength.
District Governor Dr. Krishnendu Gupta inspired the gathering by emphasizing the “Magic of Rotary” and its potential to transform lives. He highlighted the seven areas of focus and encouraged RCCC to lead the Rotary Experience Center initiative. Dr. Gupta also stressed the importance of membership growth to amplify the Rotary Foundation’s impact.
The evening concluded with musical performances by Rtn. Aniruddha Chatterjee and Rtn. Kalpan Dutta, followed by a delightful high tea. The event fostered camaraderie and enthusiasm for the club’s new chapter.
