SBI General Insurance has joined forces with Maruti Suzuki Insurance Broking to launch an extensive insurance awareness camp in Nongpo, Ri-Bhoi district, Meghalaya. Aimed at educating the local community on the importance of insurance coverage, the camp focused on financial protection during unexpected events like medical emergencies and property damage.
The camp featured free vehicle and eye check-ups, drawing enthusiastic participation from the residents. This initiative follows a similar awareness session at St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School in Shillong, where over 62 students were educated on insurance basics, including the distinctions between life and non-life insurance.
An SBI General spokesperson said, “As the leading insurer in Meghalaya, we are committed to raising insurance awareness and improving financial literacy in the region. Our partnership with Maruti Suzuki Insurance Broking will empower individuals to make informed decisions about their financial security.”The initiative is part of a broader strategy to address India’s low insurance penetration rate—95% of the population remains uninsured, according to a National Insurance Academy report. Both organizations plan future collaborations with government institutions and NGOs to further enhance insurance coverage and awareness across Meghalaya.
