Byatikram Group, in collaboration with The Times of India and Rabindranath Tagore Club Laban, Shillong, organized the second edition of “Remembering the Maestro – S.D. Burman” at U SosoTham Auditorium, celebrating the timeless legacy of the legendary composer and singer. Supported by the Government of Tripura, Meghalaya’s Department of Arts and Culture, HDFC Bank, The Illumis Clinic, NERIM, and NEDFi, the event attracted music enthusiasts and dignitaries alike.
The evening began with the arrival of Meghalaya Governor Shri Chandrashekhar H. Vijayashankar, followed by a 69-artist medley symbolizing the maestro’s 69-year life, presented by the Bahaar Group. The Governor, along with other distinguished guests, was felicitated, and the ceremonial lamp was lit to honor art and culture.
A highlight of the night was the conferment of the “S.D. Burman Byatikram Lifetime Achievement Award” to Shillong musician Rudy Wallang for his remarkable contributions. The Governor praised Byatikram Group for promoting Northeast India’s musical heritage and suggested establishing an S.D. Burman Academy of Music.
The celebration featured soulful performances by Jayati Bhattacharjee, Chandrima Bhattacharya, Binita Devi, and Sur Manjari, along with energetic dance sequences and a drama presentation, leaving the audience captivated. Byatikram Group emphasized the evening’s goal: bridging the golden past with the aspiring present, while nurturing local talent and preserving India’s cultural heritage.
