Sikkim CM Tamang declares sikkim budget session dates, focuses on state priorities

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has revealed pivotal developments for the state, underlining the government’s commitment to its promises and the welfare of the public.Chief Minister Tamang declared that the Sikkim Budget session is scheduled to convene from August 5 to August 9, aiming to address crucial state issues and lay out the financial course ahead. Concurrently, he announced the commencement of job regularization for approximately 27,000 ad-hoc and OFOJ employees starting August 1. These employees, who have received memorandums, will have their joining dates finalized during a cabinet meeting slated for July 17.

“We are not a government that forgets its promises after elections. We will fulfill all that we promised,” affirmed CM Tamang.Tamang also highlighted a political paradigm shift in Sikkim, with the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) now holding all 32 legislative seats, marking the end of the Sikkim Democratic Front’s (SDF) 25-year rule. The lone SDF MLA, Tenzing Norbu Lamtha, has officially joined SKM, consolidating the party’s dominance.

Reflecting on SKM’s journey, Tamang noted the party’s growth since 2014, culminating in a landslide victory in the 2024 elections with 31 out of 32 seats, including a Lok Sabha seat.Expressing gratitude to party workers and the people of Sikkim for their steadfast support, Chief Minister Tamang emphasized the government’s dedication to serving the state, with a focus on youth and women leadership. “I believe youths and women should lead Sikkim. I do not aspire to be Chief Minister indefinitely,” he stated, advocating for progressive and inclusive governance.

Tamang announced plans to establish New Gangtok in the Burtuk constituency, underscoring the government’s commitment to fulfilling basic needs such as water, electricity, and healthcare. Sikkim’s healthcare model, lauded and emulated by the central government, remains a priority alongside advancements in primary and secondary education. To bolster these efforts, the state has appointed an additional Chief Secretary. Infrastructure development, including road construction and tourism initiatives, is prioritized under SKM’s agenda despite challenges posed by road conditions.
