The first Meghalaya Health Summit convened to address critical healthcare issues

The state’s continuous efforts to fortify its healthcare ecosystem took a major stride ahead at the inaugural Meghalaya Health Summit. The conference brought together health sector stakeholders and provided a forum for substantive discussion on important health issues, new technology, and ways to enhance service delivery, especially in rural regions. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma emphasized the state’s dedication to revolutionizing healthcare service in his remarks during the conference.

He pointed out that the sessions clarified urgent problems like diabetes and cancer, highlighting the significance of data-driven research in successfully addressing these health challenges. The summit’s main goal was to increase cooperation, particularly in bridging the gap between access to technology and healthcare facilities in underprivileged areas. The chief minister also highlighted the state government’s seven-year commitment to healthcare, pointing to Meghalaya’s largest budgeted allocation for the industry as a testament to its goals.

“To create a proactive and responsive healthcare system, we have focused our efforts on hiring and deploying skilled labor, modernizing health infrastructure, and utilizing technology,” he stated. The newly hired ANM and GNM nurses, who will shortly start working in villages throughout Meghalaya, received their appointment letters that same day. Conrad Sangma referred to the healthcare industry as “the most vital sector,” thanked all parties involved for their active involvement, and expressed optimism about the summit’s long-term effects.
