The Center announced rules on Thursday to control the internet gaming market, making it illegal to play real money games that involve gambling or betting. The government has also chosen a self-regulation strategy for the online gaming industry, and it will first inform three self-regulatory organisations that will approve the games that can be played legally in the nation.
According to Rajeev Chandrasekhar, minister of state for electronics and information technology, online games that incorporate wagering or betting will be in violation of the new regulations governing online gaming.
