The Meghalaya government is set to review and reassess the fee structures of educational institutions

According to Meghalaya Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma, the state government would shortly give orders to all educational establishments, especially those that receive state funding, to examine and defend their current tuition schedules. The Education Minister stressed the importance of increased accountability and inclusivity in educational access in a media appearance. “We will send letters to all educational establishments, particularly those that receive government funding, asking for an explanation and rationale for the exorbitant tuition costs. We will be sending out warnings to that effect, he said, adding that institutions that receive state funding have a social duty.

He called on educational establishments all around Meghalaya to embrace a student-friendly philosophy, giving students from low-income families particular consideration. Due to financial limitations, many talented students from rural areas are unable to enroll in prestigious universities despite their potential. I urge all educational institutions, particularly those that receive state funding, to be sympathetic and helpful to these youngsters,” Sangma stated. The Education Minister also declared that Meghalaya will shortly adopt the School Quality Assessment and Assurance Framework (SQAAF), which is modeled after the NAAC model used in higher education, in an effort to raise educational standards.
