The New Health Normal Report, published by Aditya Birla Health Insurance Company Ltd (ABHICL), found that 79% of Guwahati residents believe their awareness of health and wellness issues has increased post-COVID-19, compared to 84% nationally. Financial preparedness is a top priority, with 57% of respondents in Guwahati planning for financial emergencies. However, 39% of respondents still do not consider health insurance as a criterion when looking for a job. Guwahati residents have a higher inclination and dedication towards exercise, with 85% of Gen Z respondents consistent with exercise regimes.

Mental health awareness is growing, with 85% of respondents in Guwahati believing that mental health consulting should be included in policy. However, 54% of respondents are still hesitant to visit a mental health expert due to the stigma surrounding mental health. ABHICL believes that by continuing to educate the public about mental health and reducing fear and shame associated with seeking help, the city can create a more supportive environment for those struggling with mental health issues.

Mayank Bathwal, CEO, Aditya Birla Health Insurance Co Ltd. said “COVID-19 highlighted financial strain and increased demand for health insurance, with uninsured individuals seeking higher coverage and sum insured.”
