Meghalaya, a highly educated Indian state, has consistently demonstrated a strong public awareness of eye care’s importance. Despite geographical challenges, recent developments have made it easier for residents to access advanced eye treatment facilities in other regions, highlighting the state’s literacy and public awareness. Starting January 2024, Shillong residents in Meghalaya will have access to superior eye care infrastructure due to the government’s integration of private healthcare providers with health insurance schemes.

The Retina Centre, a top eye hospital in Guwahati, Assam, has been enrolled under the Meghalaya Health Assurance Scheme, providing individuals with critical eye treatments and access to state-of-the-art diagnostic facilities without additional expenses, marking a significant New Year’s celebration.

The Retina Centre, a pioneering super eye specialty hospital in Northeast India, offers quality eye care services at minimal cost to individuals living in remote areas. The government of Meghalaya has enlisted the hospital under health assurance schemes for employees, their families, and other individuals due to its dedication to affordable eye care. Dr. S.U. Ahmed, Senior Consultant & Founder, The Retina Centre, stated, “As a prominent eye hospital in Northeast India, we are pleased with the aim to reach out to people with any eye conditions. We express our gratitude to the Meghalaya Government for this opportunity.”
