Tomba shows guts to farming saffron in Manipur

Manipur is become first home to saffron farmer Khundrakpam of Imphal. 35year old guy, who works as a sound recordist and theatrical production manager, is proud of his new enterprise, saffron cultivation. This experimental aeroponic saffron farming effort was carried out on the crop’s “Red Gold” soil. The market price is estimated to exceed ₹5 lakh per kilogram. Tomba stands out among the many entrepreneurial initiatives launched in Manipur.

The state has hosted a number of entrepreneurs who faced adversity but were successful in their endeavors. Tomba and others like him are asking the government for extra support. Saffron farming is more than just farming, it also requires significant investment and risk management. Due to the circumstances, obtaining raw materials for saffron farming is no easy feat. Tomba has a strong spirit and takes on the risk of planting saffron. He knew the path may be difficult. He also understood that each defeat would be a lesson and an opportunity to learn something new.
