Uttar Purvi Mahotsav, a five-day cultural extravaganza in New Delhi, is a celebration of Northeast India’s rich cultural diversity. Organized by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region and the Northern Handicrafts & Handlooms Development Corporation Limited (NEHHDC), the event aims to foster exchanges in traditional handicrafts, handlooms, agro products, and tourism offerings, fostering growth and development in the region. The Mahotsav festival in Northeast India will showcase 250 weavers, farmers, and entrepreneurs, showcasing the region’s unique aspects.
The festival features performances from Tangtha Fight from Manipur and the Lion Dance of Sikkim, as well as performances from Mizoram’s Band and Manipur’s Soulful Tunes. The grand finale on 17th features a musical extravaganza with rock band BottleRockets India, and singer and violinist Sunita Bhuyan.
Other traditional dances include Wangala Dance of Meghalaya, Mungwanta Dance of Nagaland, Bamboo Dance of Mizoram, Bihu Dance of Assam, and performances by Tetseo Sisters and ShankurajKonwar. The event also marks the inauguration of Barak Hostel at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), which can accommodate 400 students from NER.
