Vedanta shares upsurge as company records highest ever aluminium production in second quarter

Vedanta said it recorded aluminium production of 1,205 kilotonnes in the first half of FY25, while its alumina production grew 21 per cent during the same period.
Shares of Vedanta Ltd rose marginally in Friday’s trade after the Anil Aggarwal-led company said it recorded its highest ever quarterly and half-yearly aluminium production for the period ended September 30. Zinc India recorded its highest ever mined and refined metal production in the second quarter, the metals and mining major said.
Following the development, the stock was trading 0.05 per cent higher at Rs 512.05 in early deals. At its meeting on Tuesday, October 8, the Vedanta board will consider and approve the fourth interim dividend, if any, for FY25, the company told the stock exchanges recently.
Vedanta said it recorded aluminium production of 1,205 kilotonnes in H1 FY25, while its alumina production grew 21 per cent year-on-year during the same period. Zinc India recorded a new high for mined metal, while refined metal production grew 5 per cent year-on-year to 524 kilotonnes, Vedanta said.
In the case of Zinc International, production grew 16 per cent on a quarter-on-quarter basis. Power sales grew 10 per cent in the first half due to higher generation from thermal power plants. Ferrochrome production grew 70 per cent year-on-year to 53 kilotonnes, enabled by the commissioning of a new furnace. Iron ore volumes grew 6 per cent to 2.6 MT in the first half, while pig iron production was adversely impacted due to maintenance activity.
Vedanta said its steel production was adversely impacted in the first half due to debottlenecking of the steel melting shop and a planned shutdown of the oxygen plant for maintenance in the second quarter.
On a quarterly basis, total aluminium production grew 3 per cent to 6,09,000 tonnes as against 5,94,000 tonnes in the same quarter last year. Zinc India’s second quarter production grew 16 per cent sequentially, supported by a 26 per cent rise in Gamsberg and a 4 per cent rise in BMM. Copper India’s production grew 16 per cent quarterly, Vedanta said.
