Workshop on ” Reasons for Variations in Agriculture Productivity across the State”

A two day Workshop on “Reasons for Variations in Agriculture Productivity across the State” organised by Department of Agriculture, Assam began on Thursday at Assam Administrative Staff College , Khanapara, Guwahati.

On the inaugural day Dr Ashish Kumar Bhutani, Addl. Chief Secretary (GoA) & APC while speaking on the occasion said that for the upliftment of the Agriculture Sector in the state a strategic plan need to be formulated with proper usage of Machinaries and scientific technologies for cultivation. ’The objective of workshop is to know the variation in the productivity in various districts across Assam’ he added.

Chairman of the Assam Agriculture Commission Dr. H S Gupta in his speech during the workshop said that as the state have a very fertile soil, good quality seed should be provided to the farmers creating awareness on minimum usage of pesticides . Use of organic manures should also be taken up by the farmers. Earlier Akash Deep, State Project Director (SPD) ARIAS Society while speaking on the objective of the workshop said that the State Government has come up with various Agricultural schemes like Assam Millet Mission, Floriculture Mission, Fodder Mission etc. These need to to implemented in various districts with the help of the Agriculture Department and it’s allied sectors  so that the income generation of the farmers are increased.

He also added that though Assam has a very fertile land, production in the cultivable land is on a lower level which need to be increased for upliftment of the State economy.
